This category of award can include the following types of psychological injury.  In all cases various factors have to be taken into account such as the injured person's ability to cope with life and work, the extent to which any treatment would be successful and the overall prognosis.

General Psychiatric Damage:

Compensation for this injury varies from "Severe" ( £36,000 - £76,000) where there is a long term inability to cope with work and life and a future vulnerability" to "Minor" (£1,000 - £3,875) which might include cases involving whre daily activities and sleep were affected.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder:

This category is reserved for injuries caused as a result of a psychologically distressing event which was outside the range of normal human experience and which would be markedly distressing to almost anyone.  Compensation for this injury varies from "Severe" ( £40,000 - £66,000) where there the person is not "functioning at anything approaching the pre-trauma level" through to "Minor" (£2,600 - £5,400) where virtually a full recovery can be expected to be made.

Chronic Pain:

These are cases where there are symptoms of pain without any, or commensurate, organic pain.  The range is as follows.
